From their debut in 1912 as a simple chocolate sandwich cookie filled with vanilla cream, Oreos have evolved into a global phenomenon with dozens of creative flavor variations that continue to captivate snack enthusiasts worldwide. Beyond the classic black-and-white combination that made them famous, Oreo has ventured into territory both conventional and daring, crafting limited-edition flavors that range from crowd-pleasing favorites like Birthday Cake to more adventurous offerings like Wasabi. As debate rages among cookie aficionados about which varieties deserve top honors, we’ve taken on the deliciously daunting task of ranking the best Oreo flavors of all time.

StudyFinds is a research-driven platform that analyzes and synthesizes expert recommendations from trusted sources. Best Oreo Flavors You Have to Try Next

1. Original

It’s hard to improve perfection! The original Oreo is the version consumers like the best, which is why the classic sandwich cookie tops our list. According to Parade, the cookie should never be changed because the wafer is “just chocolatey enough and the filling is smooth and creamy.”

It may be boring, but the original offers a bit of nostalgia for those who grew up with the basic cookie. Buzzfeed felt the creme filling from other flavors “suffocated” the wafers, while the original flavor is perfect for those who love chocolate and those who don’t.

No matter how many new flavors are introduced, most of us still return to the tried-and-true version. Mashed agrees we can never get tired of the original Oreo.

2. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie

If you love peanut butter and chocolate, you’ll love these Oreos. Tasting Table says you can’t beat the graham cracker cookie, acting as the crust, mixing with the perfect peanut butter and chocolate pie filling.

This is a little slice of pie heaven in cookie form. According to Buzzfeed, it’s kind of like a Nutter Butter, with a dab of chocolate. If sweet and salty is your thing, you can’t go wrong with this flavor combo with CNET calling it simple and spectacular.

3. Dark Chocolate

The dark chocolate comes in at a solid number three on our list. Sporked gives the flavor 10 out of 10 “Sporks” saying they’re not too dark, not too bitter, but just perfect.

You would think this flavor would be overly sweet, but not for the taste tester at CNET, who believes the original flavor is over the top. However, writer Nina Raemont says the dark chocolate Oreo balances well with the dark chocolate cream and is not too sweet.

This cookie is genius because the dark chocolate cream replicates the taste of the cookies. According to Buzzfeed, you end up with “three layers with the same flavor” but different textures. If you love chocolate, stock up!

4. Peanut Butter

If you’ve ever dipped your Oreo in peanut butter instead of milk, you know how yummy it tasted. According to Mashed, there is “something so magical” about the chocolate and peanut butter combo. No wonder it ranks as the fourth most popular flavor on our list.

The flavor in some peanut butter cookies can taste fake, but not these. Sporkedย says they taste like peanut butter, instead of a peanut butter product.

A little protein with your cookie? I guess you can make a case for eating more than one! The Tartellete Blog admits are perfect for picnics or road trips.

5. Mint

If you love Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, you’ll eat a whole sleeve of these too! Sporked likes these even better saying they’re “refreshing” and not too “toothpasty.” The best and worst part? You can get them year-round.

If you’re like me, you always need a little taste of something sweet to clear the palette after a meal and this is the perfect choice! According to Tasting Table, this is the perfect “after-dinner cookie” that resembles an Andes mint.

Not everyone agrees they’re better than Thin Mints, but CNET says they do make you “believe that heaven is real.”

6. Chocolate

These don’t rank as high as the dark chocolate version, but they still get the job done. The editor-in-chief at Sporked says it tastes like the Oreo cream is mixed with hot chocolate powder! You can’t go wrong with that combo.

Be careful if you buy these, you won’t be able to put them down. Buzzfeed says they taste much like the original flavor, with just a hint of more chocolate. Sounds pretty good to me.

Experts believe these are a nice change of pace from the original. While it may not be as good as some other flavors, Mashed says the best way to “improve chocolate is by adding more chocolate.”

7. Java Chip

This is described as “Starbucks in cookie form.” According to Mashed, the combo works well and gives people enough of the coffee flavor to satisfy their craving.

If you love to dunk your Oreo in milk, this brings that experience to a new level. The Tartelette Blog says the cookie is also great in the summer as part of an iced coffee milkshake.

While the two previous publications love the Java Chip, there’s a reason it comes in at number seven on our list. CNET admits it tastes “too artificial.”
